Home Care

Be good to your Frenchie. They have royal personalities!

French Bulldogs are loving, lap dogs. Frenchies are affectionate, friendly dogs that were bred to be companions. Small without being hyperactive, intelligent without being overbearing, loving without being demanding.

Whenever I am asked “How are Frenchies with children?” I like to reply “How are your children with dogs?” French Bulldogs are sweet dogs, but like any other dog they do have limits. They get nervous with loud, rambunctious enviornments. They are not endurance dogs. Frenchies will play and rough house happily but will need breaks or they can exhaust themselves as well as overheat. Be careful about toys you provide. They might break off easily and lodge in the throat.  Discard toys that become worn over time. Avoid rawhide or those treat sticks. They splinter up badly and can inflame a Frenchie’s  throat and cause choking. Too many treats can cause them to become overweight, which can tax their circulatory systems, and create additional overheating problems.

We feed all of our Frenchies Diamond small breed lamb & rice. It promotes a healthy balance and good coat. We've never had any allergy symptoms and believe starting with quality ingredients without all those additives is the best prevention .

Frenchies cannot be kept outside. Due to their flat-faces, they do not tolerate long walks, extreme heat or cold. (brachycephalic) Dogs regulate their body temperatures by panting, and flat-faced breeds have less surface area for heat loss in their nasal cavities. No walks more than  10-15 minutes at a time.  It can be dangerous and even life threatening. They are house dogs and perfectly content to sit at your side or on your lap. They don’t need much exercise, so they are fine in small areas and enjoy the safety of a crate.

They get along well with other dogs and aren’t big barkers. Keep them away from lakes, pools or bodies of water. Let's just say they are built for beauty not for buoyancy. Frenchies are very sensitive, so they do not take criticism lightly. If you scold a French bulldog, it might take it very seriously and mope around the house. French bulldogs respond better to positive reinforcement and encouragement.
